In LM8.1 (maybe 8.0) there is an Xkill icon on the Desktop (default) click on it the mose ptr changes to a skull and crossbones, click on the Term It should go away. Also as someone pointeed out earlier ctrl-alt-esc brings up the Xkill mouse ptr also.
