John, I'm not sure this will work, but give it a try (it won't harm anything) : Become root, edit the file : "/etc/X11/XF86Config-4" to enable the software-cursor. To do that, just find the line : # Option "sw_cursor" and remove the hash-mark (#). Save the file, exit root-status and restart the X-server.
If this doesn't fix it, continue according to Brian's advices. (He knows more than somewhat about linux). Kaj Haulrich.
