Lucio:
The bad news is that Sun has withdrawn the free Star Office 6.0 betas. They
plan to offer the non-free versions for Linux and Windows in April. Here's a
thread on this:
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/03/25/1850203&mode=thread&tid=106
The article refers to a Rob Miller review at (www.newsforge.com), but I've
not read it. He installed both SO 6.0 and Open Office. Here's what I've been
able to learn:
1. Both of them are based on the same source code; the only major difference
seems to be that SO includes a database that is not in OO.
2. Both of them run much, much faster than SO 5.2. (But then, is it possible
to write a slower program than SO 5.2?)
3. If you are a _Silver_ member of the Mandrake Club, you can now download SO
6.0 from there. For further details, see
http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/staroffice-6.0.php3
4. Open Office is included in the 3CD download, but you'll have to buy the
8.2 Power Pack to get Star Office.
