Thanks Richard,
I did this :-
........................................................................
This is with Audio CD in Writer
with option -d

[root@localhost root]#

[root@localhost root]# cdparanoia -d -vB 1- /root/tmp/name
cdparanoia III release 9.8 (March 23, 2001)
(C) 2001 Monty <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and Xiphophorus

Unable to open cdrom drive; -v will give more information.
[root@localhost root]#

This is with Audio CD in DVD/ROM
with -d option

[root@localhost root]# cdparanoia -d -vB 1- /root/tmp/name

It would seem that the -d option has no effect.
but please do check my command line.

So far the only option that seems to work at all
is with the Audio CD in the DVD/ROM and:

cdparanoia -vB 1- /root/tmp/name

which cashes the wave files in that directory.

Does all this suggest cdrecord is the problem ?
I don't know.
