I tried to install the kdetoys-2.2.2-8mdk.i586.rpm using urpmi it would not
get installed. urpmi just gave the error message that an error occurred
without any explanation. I then used rpm to install it. This time the
installation was successful. I checked the installed packages using "Software
Manager" and the extraneous packages did not show up.

It looks like the problem is solved. No compilation was necessary.

Thanx to everyone.
