-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I get the feeling there's a general problem with these.
My new motherboard has a C-Media Electronics CM8738 sound chip onboard. I was getting no sound but, by analogy with civileme's observation, I fixed this by going to /etc/modules.conf and replacing two lines: above snd-card-cmipci snd-pcm-oss alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-cmipci with one: alias sound cmpci then rebooting. There are some inconsistencies in the UI regarding this card. For example, in the KDE Control Centre, Information/IO-Ports and Information/PCI report it yet Information/Sound says 'no information available about this sound card'; it appears correctly in the Mandrake Control Centre.
