[newbie]network configuration

Hi to all,   First off, thanks for the help I received so far!   The correct detection and installment of my ethernet card on boot seems to be a random occurance.  More often than not do I get the message: cardmgr[449]: get dev info on socket 1 failed: resource temporarily unavailable.  Sometimes its detected fine though - apparently without me having change any of the configuration.    I know that part of the message is sent by ifup, when searching (and not finding the device).  Does anybody have a suggestion  what to change?   Thanks a lot in advance,   Cheers,   Matthias
