TO SLOBODAN MILOSEVIC (YUGOSLAVIA) - A POLITICAL PRISONER IN THE HAGUE DUNGEON, THE EX-PRESIDENT OF YUGOSLAVIA, FOR HIS COURAGE, VIGILANCE AND HIS SELFLESS RESISTANCE TO INJUSTICE IN THE STRUGGLE FOR CITIZENS' RIGHTS AND THE FREEDOM OF YUGOSLAV AND OTHER SLAVONIC PEOPLES, FOR EXPOSING, IN THE SESSIONS OF THE "INTERNATIONAL HAGUE TRIBUNAL", THE NATO-US AGGRESSION IN EUROPE.

President Slobodan Milosevic has been awarded with respectful International Sholokhov Prize. On his behalf, his brother Borislav received the prize today in Moscow, on a celebration on birthday of the great Soviet and Russian writer Mikhail Sholokhov.
This award is traditionally given by International Association of Writers' Unions, Union of Artists of Russia, "Soviet Writer" Publishing Company and Pedagogical State University "Mikhail Sholokhov". President of the Commission for the prize this year was one of its earlier laureates well known Russian writer Yuri Bondarev.
Among earlier laureates of the prize were writers V. Pikul', A. Larionov, S. Vikulov, Y. Nosov, R. Gamzatov, P. Proskurin, V. Sorokin, V. Sidorov and B. Oliynik.
Prize was also earlier awarded to statesman and politicians - Fidel Castro, Gennady Zyuganov, Alexander Lukashenko. The only Yugoslav who won the prize was Bosnian Serb Leader Radovan Karadzic (in 1994).
Three days ago the following telegram was sent to The Hague:

Dear comrade Milosevic,
 
We cordially congratulate you, the courageous fighter for freedom of Slavonic peoples, on the occasion of wining the International Sholokhov Prize for 2002. Your brother Borislav will receive diploma and medal on May 24, the birthday of Sholokhov.
We expect your soon release and a meeting with you.
