The Wings Club is an aviation membership organization basedin New York City. It was founded in 1942and currently has more than 1,000 members worldwide. It also has 100 Corporate members. Most of the world’s airlines are corporate membersor have individual members. See: History-The Wings Club
Annually, The Wings Club elects senior members to become GoldenEagle members when their age plus consecutive years as a club member equals 120for men and 95 for women. This year, one of the seven Golden Eagles elected at The AnnualMeeting on March 25 was Harris Herman. Harrisworked at American’s corporate headquarters from 1965 until the move to Dallas,TX in 1979. He grew up in Boston, MA,received an engineering degree from Northeastern University and an MBA fromHarvard Business School and was hired by AA to work in the Methods andStandards Department. He was promotednine times with a final role as Assistant Vice President MarketingAdministration, reporting to Bob Crandall. After leaving American, he helped start up three companiesin the 1980’s, including New York Air and The Pan Am Shuttle. He was president of The Pan Am Shuttle untilit was sold to Delta Air Lines in 1991.For most of the 1990’s he was anindependent consultant and also was hired as President of two of his clients. He also joined The Wings Club in 1991, was elected to theBoard of Governors, serving for 10 years and then became General Manager for afurther 10 years. Upon his retirement in 2012 The Board elected him an HonoraryMember of the Club for his contributions over the previous 20 years. Since retirement he has volunteered his time as a consultantto help non-profit organizations address management issues, working on teams representingthe Harvard Business School Community Partners and The National ExecutiveService Corp. Harris and his wife, Phyllis, (also a former AAer) stilllive on Gramercy Park in Manhattan. Â
