Simon, For question #1 (below), you probably have the flash head tilted in the full down (macro) position. tilt it up one click and the bar should stop blinking. As for question #2, this is tough to answer, since I dont know what a "typical situation" is for you (or me for that matter). Practice with 3D matrix, then venture out from there.
