I have seen plenty of chatter about the mount on Nikon Speedlights. Having just
gotten my SB-26 back from repair, I can tell you this: Replacing an SB's shoe is much
more expensive than 20 beans.

Actually, with the shipping, it cost me exactly $131 bucks to have the shoe replaced
on my nearly four-year-old flash.

Now, I am sure that this price is somewhat inflated as it was repaired by NPS in a
matter of just two days (they got it Tuesday AM - I got it back Thursday AM).
Nevertheless, I am more than certain that even through a normal repair service, Nikon
would still charge more that $75.

But, I suppose that's better than replacing the finder on my F5.

And, in related comments, the perfect SB-29 would be a more powerful, but neatly
shrunken SB-26. Easy to use "analog" controls (via switches-not LCD panels) and
myriad features and capabilities. Just in a smaller package like the 28.

But, we shall see what the minds at Nikon have created ...
