Regarding the f/2.8 enlarging lens, in some printing, the increased
speed of the lens is helpful if you are trying to maintain a constancy
in the exposure time. It's not critical in b&w printing, perhaps, but in
color printing it is. For instance, I have established a certain color
filter pack for a type of color negative. My exposure time is 10 seconds
at f/4.  I wish to make a larger or more tightly cropped print, so I
raise the enlarger. Now if I add exposure time, then the color
filtration may go out of whack due to some reciprocity failure caused by
longer exposure times. How sweet it is to open the lens a stop,
maintaining the exposure time and how many test strips it saves and more
time left for shooting!
