Nikon USA has cleverly divided the 5 years into a 1 year warranty followed by 4 years of "Extended Service Coverage." Therefore if you throw away the cards, you'll still get the "warranty" -- 1 year. BTW, for new equipment I always use my American Express card to get the extra year of coverage that they (as well as some others) offer. Joel P.S. I got lucky yesterday and happened to be placing an order during the "one hour" that my dealer had some Nikkor 28-105 f/3.5-4.5's in stock. This was the walking around lens that I wanted five years ago when I first considered AF (and seriously considered a Canon body because they made one and Nikon didn't!).
