I have not yet seen this lens in a shop, BUT in speaking with
a bloke at 800/NIKONUS, the reason they have started (as of
01 Aug 98) to offer the 5-year warranty is to counteract the
lure of the grey market stuff. Note, this person also said
that the 5-year warranty is only on AF lenses. Bummer, I think.
Don't let your retailer try to justify the price w/ the "new"
5-year warranty.
