The attitude in unacceptable, but not surpassing.  A couple of years ago at
Hunt's Photo Expo (Boston, MA) the Nikon rep asked, in the most
condescending tone, "Do you know how much this costs?" requiring that I
answer, before handing over a 80-200/2.8 to mount/handle/examine.  You can
shop for a car and the sales reps will trip over themselves to let you take
their most expensive model for a test drive.  Same applies to real estate
agents and homes.
