I didn't read the first posting but I think I can help you. I did consider
buying the some lend (sigma 17-35). I would use it primarily for
architecture. Well the quality was just not good enough. I ended up buying
Nikon 20/2.8 fixed focal lens. Now this is my most often used lens (besides
35-70/2.8 nikon) I use it for just anything. Did few great "portrait" shots
in Cambodia with it. The price is the some as the 17-35 but the quality
(mechanics and optics) is something you can not compare!!
