Don't do it!  I assume you are talking about a manual focus lens. A used
Nikkor AI 105mmf2.5 is NOT expensive... maybe US$150.  This lens is
LEGENDARY. It is still considered one of Nikon's best lenses, perfect
for portraiture.

For autofocus the Nikkor 85f1.8D is your best choice.  about US$360 new.

By the way, Nikon never made a 50mmf1.7... only f1.2, f1.4 and f1.8 and
f2.0.
