colin: so far as matrux metering with an the 600 mm ais lens, i believe that you can do it with an f4 but not and f5. the lens needs a cpu to achieve matrix metering. this lack of complete backward compatibility was one of the original complaints voiced about the f5. i'm not sure about the 500m P lens, since it does incorporate a cpu. regards
