<Could sombody please explain, in 'english', what makes the 35mm SLR
unique as compared to all other 35mm's.>

<s>

An SLR lets you see through the same lens the film is seeing through. You
know exactly what the film will get, from corner to corner, from edge to
edge (almost). There's no possibility that you'll trim off the top of
someone's head or that you'll have a tree growing out of someone's ear. It
holds true for wide angle lenses or for telephoto lenses and for close-ups
as well as for vistas.

The other kind of camera, BTW is a rangefinder/viewfinder. Most
point-n-shoot cameras and the venerable Leica M are of this type. You look
though a "window" near the lens, but the demon called Parallax lives in the
small space between the window and the lens.

Hope this helps.

BTW -- there are several SLR cameras which are not 35mm, including those
from Mamiya, Bronica, Pentax & Hasselblad. All share the virtue of viewing
throught the taking lens.
