You will find a long discussion of modifications to the F4 Nikon made
over time. Many are cosmetic but some have operational value.

Generally, the guidelines seem to be to get the newest possible body --
serial numbers beginning with 24 or 25 are good -- and to get one owned
by an amateur rather than a professional. And have it checked out by a
camera repair shop before buying.
