First, the FM2 is a totally mechanical camera (apart from the meter), so
there is no quartz oscillator in it.

Second, the FA works a little be differently in P and S mode: it does a
last-minute check of the exposure after stopping down the lens but
before opening the shutter. This is to avoid possible aperture linearity
problems with non-Ais lenses and could explain a different shutter
sound, because of the different sequence.
