You find 'xmkmf' in the package XFree86-devel (RHEL3), xorg-x11-devel
(RHEL4) or imake (RHEL5).

skipped step 8. On step 9, the "./configure" aborts with an error message
stating the command "xmkmf -a" does not exist. A "find" shows this command
