Not quite sure about your question; are you asking if issuing a Linux command with redirection is anything other that enclosing it in quotes? The ANSI Standard specifies an elegant enhancement to the 'Address' statement (ADDRESS ... WITH ...) that performs redirection of a command (individually or globally) without using '<' or '>' but I don't think ooRexx implemented it.
