The enable trick didn't seem to do anything.
I'm pretty sure the LED is not gated. I did the following experiment from
an openocd telnet session:
ftdi_layout_signal TEST -data 0x0800
ftdi_set_signal TEST 1 // LED turns on briefly, then turns off
poll off // to stop activity in the driver
ftdi_set_signal TEST 1 // LED stays on
ftdi_set_signal TEST 0 // LED turns off
It looks to me like the driver is actively driving the LED off each time
there is some activity on the device. The ft2232 driver seemed to toggle
the LED each time there was activity.
