A couple of updates: Calling the OpenSocial extensions to Atom/AtomPub "GData" was a useful shorthand, and historically accurate, but isn't correct going forward -- one of the things that we're working on right now is separating the OpenSocial Atom extensions out from Google GData. The things that OpenSocial implementors depend on will be OpenSocial branded, not Google branded. This is one of the cleanup items that's taking a little bit of time to sort out. We want to make sure we do it right.
Also, we're planning on being RFC 5023 (AtomPub) compatible in OpenSocial (and GData too). Things are not quite there yet but that's the direction. An open question there is discovery and the related question of what should be in the AtomPub service document; we're working on that and welcome feedback.
