An educated guess would be the small kernel running the installer for OpenSolaris doesn't know how to keep you laptop cooling system working, and so it's going into thermal shutdown at that point. You're spinning the optical and disk drives and keeping the CPU fairly busy, so it gets hot... With my Ferrari 3400 I find it installs fine if I lift the side with the fan inlet underneath off the desk a bit by putting a pen underneath it. =O) I know, a very low-tech solution, but it works. Once Solaris is on, you can then look into which kernel driver you need to add to properly manage the laptop's cooling system. Good luck.
