Tom, if I e-mailed you some links to where you could download evaluation copies of Cisco Packet Tracer and Cisco Configmaker, do you think you could try running them under Bordeaux on OpenSolaris 2009.06 and give me feedback as to what kinds of errors you get and what the workarounds might be?
This is a tutorial that kind of describes how I (and lots of other people) used to run Packet Tracer under Ubuntu using WINE before CISCO released an official "Ubuntu" version of Packet Tracer: http://inspirated.com/2009/03/06/using-cisco-packet-tracer-on-linux I would like to set up OpenSolaris as an ideal OS for CISCO & Juniper network admins to use, but there's several roadblocks that are standing in the way. One of them being that CISCO only makes VPN clients for Solaris SPARC, but the fact that Packet Tracer won't run on OpenSolaris when there are versions already available for Microsoft Windows, Ubuntu and Fedora is a severe hindrance for OpenSolaris adoption in the network admin community IMO. I would gladly pay the Bordeaux fee for the ability to get all the CISCO software that I need for work to run under wine, as would many hundreds of other CISCO network admins out there. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
