We live in an age where the success of a project seems to be proportional to how disconnected the name appears to be from the product / service. Look at the big companies today and ask yourself if, at first glance, you would be able to guess what they do. * Ebay (what?!?!?!) * Amazon (sure, name a bookstore after a river; that makes sense) * Google (now we are just making up words) * Yahoo! (no clue at first) * Napster (sleeping pill?) * Java (An island? Coffee? Nope, a C++ like programming language) * Ubuntu * Red Hat * Unix (a neutered MUTLICS. Sure, we would have all guessed that one) While I'm sure there are plenty of counterexamples, the best names seem to be made up and/or cause significant confusion regarding their purpose. IllumOS fits the bill. Not a good name I guess the name needs to be changed before intrenched views set in.The project needs to be something more professional off the line. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
