This HAS to be a common problem. I tried several different OpenVAS installations including the Virtual Box Appliance. I also installed myself under Ubuntu. Computers are on my local network and I am using the local ip address. I have them set to assume to be alive. When I scan the only result is tracert. I can’t FIND an error section of the report to check - so I assume there are no errors. I tried just turing off the windows firewall even on some machines to see if it would detect SOMETHING - but nothing. I am not installing the SAMBA client - I just want to check for external vulnerabilities and I know certain ports are open yet non are reported in the open ports. Only tracert.
So what’s the trick to scanning Windows machines?
