aj, what do you mean by that statement? Are you saying that Apple and Linux geeks are writing viruses for Windows? If so, why would they do that? To make people sick of Windows and switch to Apple or Linux? Most Apple users think they are the artistic elite and wouldn't want a bunch of Windows hooligans mixing with their ranks. Most Linux geeks think Windows users are all a bunch of clueless newbies and don't want to mix with them either. I use both Windows and Linux, does that make me a hooligan and a dick (hoolidick?). If you are looking for conspiracies, I think a much more plausible one is that the AV vendors write the viruses to generate demand for their products. I wonder why there hasn't been an FBI or Justice Dept. investigation into this. If you just don't like Apple or Linux users, then just say so ;-) I tend to dislike Apple users because they tend to not know anything about basic computer concepts, such as file types and extensions. It's a major pain in my anatomy when art services do my ad art and give me files I can't open on my PC. Even when they do manage to remember my request to save the files in PC format, I can't even tell what the file type is because there is no file extension. When I ask them what file type it is, they say "What's a file type? What's an extension?". I explain that PC's usually insert text in the filename after a dot, and that's the extension. They say, "Oh, the Macs don't use extensions." I say, "Then how does the Mac software know what file type a file is?". They say, "I don't know, it just knows." This willful ignorance of how their machines work is very aggravating to me. I don't expect them to be IT experts, but you'd think they would gain some computer knowledge just by using the machines over the years. As far as the Apple products go, I suppose they are very good. That's what everyone says, anyway. I haven't used Apple products since the Apple II days. My college roommate was raving about the MacIntosh when it first came out. I went to the college library to see it, and wasn't that impressed. He said how great the graphic interface was and how easy it was to use. I said, "Bah, it's got no expansion slots. And I couldn't find the command line." He became a librarian, I became an electrical engineer ;-) Best regards, Ivan Baggett Bagotronix Inc. website: www.bagotronix.com ----- Original Message ----- From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, December 16, 2004 5:08 PM Subject: RE: [PEDA] Antivirus Problems > The problem with your suggestion (though I do think it really is a very > good suggestion), is that for many of us, there isn't any choice > involved.
