Yeah, when I am shopping for software, I always look for the "obliterate my settings when applying upgrades or service packs" feature. If the software doesn't have that feature, it's a deal breaker. ;-)

Wow, software companies must love to have you as a customer! Willing to pay lots of money for software that is lacking in basic areas (preserving settings across releases), and willing to accept "guilty until proven innocent" licensing activation as a "minor inconvenience".

I personally don't mind activation if the activation number is printed on the CD, or on the sleeve that the CD comes in, and that is the only number that is needed to make the software work. What I hate is having to go to a website or call an activation center to activate the software. What happens when the software vendors stops supporting the activation codes, or go out of business? No one to call then. You are stuck with useless software that you paid $$$$ for. And possibly useless data, since it is stored in proprietary formats that need the creating program to read.

Craig,

Now that you have SP2 installed, you can save your preferences as a file, and import them into any future reinstall (Tools>Preferences - Save button at bottom of window). Menu, toolbar, and shortcut customization is saved, along with schematic and pcb default primitives.

Workspaces can also be saved (File>Save Workspace as).

Altium made it happen because paying customers asked for it.

Blame the minor inconvenience of re-licensing on pirates that don't want to pay for the software or the improvements (including the ability to save program customization).

I just installed DXP 2004 SP2

Not only did I have to go though the licensing/activation procedure again, I find that all my customised setting have reverted to defaults.
Protel, you've done it again.

Imagine if every time you applied a Windows SP you lost your profile and had to set it all up again.

Not happy Jan
