Hi All, Did anyone had experience to work on a large design. My design involves more than 1000 components and more than 500 labeled nets. It has 128 cells plus control circuit. Each cell has 2 transistors, 3 diodes, & 3 resistors. Each cell also has 2 common nets and 4 individual nets, which means there are 514 nets in all cells. I put all 128 cells in one page (size A0).
PC1: P4-2.8 + 1 GB DDR333. PC2: P4-2.4HT + 2 GB DDR400. Software environments: Protel 99SE trial with SP3, Protel 99SE with SP5 & SP6. I did the following steps. 1. open the schematic in Protel 99SE without open any other programs. It took 8 seconds. 2. Select all. It took 10 seconds. 3. DeSelect all. It took 20 seconds. 4. Wait few seconds. 5. Re-do step 2 and 3. It took 35 and 50 seconds respectfully. 6. Wait few seconds. 7 Re-do step 2. I did not measure the time, because I gave up. It took more than 1 minute. I checked the free RAM. It has more than 400MB left. The HDD LED did not flash rapidly. The CPU usage kept 100% during the measuring periods. I am willing to find a way to improve the speed. Any suggestions?
