No need to apologise for any confusion; Altium effectively changed the name
of the version from Protel 2004 to Altium Designer 2004 part way through
that version's "life cycle", and the original designation had genuinely
slipped my mind prior to Darren Moore reminding me of it. (So if anyone was
to apologise in the circumstances, I should be apologising to you.)

In any event, I am glad to hear that you had some success in replacing the
problem files with files from a successful x32 install. And while I wish
that I could also offer you some assistance with the parallel port driver
problem, I don't think that I can do so other than to suggest that you try
"extending" what you did previously (in replacing files from a x32 install).
>From what you have said, doing that still wouldn't permit you to run your
NanoBoard from your PC, but *maybe* you could then be able to run *other*
parts of Altium Designer 2004, such as its schematic and PCB servers.

Something else you could try is looking at Altium's Knowledge Base
(URL: http://www.altium.com/forms/kb/default.asp ) and reading whatever
items are provided for the parallel port driver. I don't know whether there
are currently any items which specifically cover installing/using it on XP
x64, but for all that, whatever items are provided *might* still be of some
value to you.

And the other thing to try of course is to post another message on the
mailing lists hosted by Altium and/or specifically solicit assistance for
this matter, though I'm picking that you've already done that.

Altium Designer 2004 is no longer the "prevailing" version of Altium
Designer (as it has been superseded by Altium Designer 6 in that regard),
but as far as I'm concerned, Altium *should* still be obliged to support
users such as yourself who want to install it on XP x64, even if that means
providing supplementary installation files, or if necessary, even providing
suitably updated versions of the installation CD-ROMs. Hopefully Altium
would also see the merits of doing that, though time will tell whether they
actually do so.

In any event, good luck with your efforts to get Altium Designer 2004 to
fully run on XP x64. I'm not currently using XP x64 myself, though I'll
almost certainly end up using it (or a succeeding version) at some stage,
and doubtless most other users will similarly start using it at some stage
as well (or in some cases be using it already). So I'm picking that your
endeavours to get Altium Designer 2004 to fully run on XP x64 would truly be
of interest to many users.

Regards,
Geoff Harland.

Subject: RE: [OT] Running Protel 2004 on XP x64

You are right, our company bought this copy before the name was changed to
Altium Designer. Sorry about the confusion. I was able to get some success
replacing the problem files with files from a successful x32 install. But
now the installer gives me an error message that there was a problem
installing the parallel port driver and closes. I know that
Protel2004/Altium Designer's parallel port driver will not work on XP x64,
is there any way to get the installer to skip the parallel port driver
install?
