>>Bruce Johnson Sent: Well, you are going to have problems trying to
connect two cable modems to the same line, since this is essentially
like splicing two ends on one Ethernet cable and trying to plug in two
devices at once. Won't work.<<
Not to mention that there are probably filters on the other cable
outlets--similar to DSL filters--to keep the modem signal (somewhere
below Ch 2) from interfering with TV reception. (At least, that's how
Cox does it.)
>>My suggestion is to fish ethernet cable through to the second floor
somehow or use wireless for the systems on the second floor.<<
Go to Home Depot to buy Cat5e by the foot, just don't go outside and try
to stay away from 110v wires and outlets. You could use wireless or some
of the "Phone line Network"products or you MAY even be able to "hijack"
spare wires in a phone jack (reliable for 10BT IF going point to point.)
10BT needs 4 wires, phones need 2 wires per line UNLESS there is a
transformer in the house for old lighted dial/keyboard phones--most
houses have at least 6 wires in their walls. HTH EricB
