> Is there any reason you would need a gig of RAM?

I have 608 megs in my 9500/G3 (OS 8.6) at the moment, and have run out of
memory a few times. This was accomplished by running several 3-D programs
at the same time (they require LOTS of memory to run very well), along with
Photoshop and IE, and a nice RAM disk.

If you run OSX you need more than when running 8.X or 9. I consider 128
megs to be a minimal amount anymore; give any OS lots of room to breathe and
flex by having lots of RAM, more than the recommended amounts.

Memory is kinda like money; you can have too little RAM. You can't have
too much. That said, I just bought and received several more 128 meg
modules from smsassembly.com at $20 each (which will bring me just shy of
the 1 gig RAM level. Eventually, I'll creep up on the 1.5 gig limit of the
9500 (with 12, count 'em, 12! RAM slots). I'll feed my 3-D generation
programs even more memory, and make a larger RAM drive as well.
