Hi,
     Yes, that could be the problem. Presumably the 8600 already has a HD 
(2gig/4gig) on board? If so this could be terminated and if the WD is 
after it on the int scsi chain the termination will have to be moved to 
the WD. It can be terminated on the drive jumpers if the drive has active 
termination - or with a terminated adapter - check the manuf specs - or 
it may be simpler to move the terminated drive to the last on the scsi 
chain.
