How much ram did you install? I've had this happen twice. The first time it turned out to have a bad ram stick. The second time, (now) it was that I wasn't waiting long enough. I put in a Gig of ram, and it takes about a minute, and then everything takes off. Until then the monitor light blinks. I'm assuming it's checking the ram. How long are you waiting before forcing a reboot.
STeve << Last week I installed new RAM in my 8500. I'm running OS 9.1 with a G3 500 card and a video card. Now when I hit my power up key on the key board I get chimes but no boot up. The monitor light goes green but then begins to blink. I have to do a forced reboot to get the computer up. I've run Nortons and fixed all problems but it is still doing it.
