Hi, as stated I have an 8500av/120 with only 48 MB of RAM that I bought. The
current OS is 7.6 but I have CDs for both 8.6 and 9.1 so I am wondering if
its worth it to upgrade the OS even though it will be a little while until I
can afford a RAM upgrade (yes $25-50 is even too much right now). I have
this machine on my home LAN and it will not be my primary machine so I won't
need USB and FW support. I am not sure exactly what I'll be using it for
yet, but I will definitely be "tinkering" and learning more about macs (no
photoshop or mp3 ripping...). I do have the laserwriter hooked up to it and
plan to share it among the G3 and other comps in the house.

So...I guess I'd like to upgrade to have the "latest" but I am concerned
about only having 48 MB of RAM and that not being "enough" for later OSs and
later programs (I will try iCab for browsing after the discussion here)

Should I take the leap all the way to 9.1 and just disable what I don't
need? Or is 8.6 a speed sweet spot? Or should I remain at 7.6 until I get
the new ram? And will 256mb of interleaved ram be "enough" for most things
(because it will be even longer before I have enough $ for 512, I'd rather
spend that on a ZIF carrier)?

Suggestions? TIA!

~Caitlin
