So, from your pov, accessing the internet is the only issue? What about accessing the other local systems, for passing files back and forth, etc? Internet access only accounts for about 2/3 of our traffic here at home. The rest is file sharing - and we regularly swamp out our 10 Mbps LAN segments with it. ObQuip: I recently moved our Xerox 850DP Crayon Pooper printer to a 100-base switch, along with my housemate's 1.4GHz PC. He got NO transfer speed improvement (yes, his nic is sync'd at 100). But when his wife plugs her 333-MHz PowerBook G3 (bronze) into that segment... wow! Jobs queue at warp speed! >Also, people will be dumping the 802.11b stuff for the g stuff, and >used b stuff will be cheaper. Which, in part, was my point. Wait and it will be LOTS cheaper, because the bleading-edge crowd will be jumping on the g bandwagon. But still, I'm reluctant to recommend 11b to anyone, even after a 50% price drop. It's just too slow, given the cost of the technology. - Dan. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
