ROFL!

I've always wondered... Does it (the Xerox) work well? They are so cheap
now a days.

Ahhhhh the smell of melted crayons wafting thru the house...

We have two Xerox 850DP; one here and one at my housemate's daughter's home. Bought 'em as refirbs direct from Xerox. They work great! We crank out a lot of newsletters and such. 8 to 14ppm; 800 to 1200dpi. Lives on the LAN, talks well to Mac OS 8/9 & X, Windoze, and *nix. Postscript, etc.

The ink bricks seem expensive, but if you buy the printer directly from Xerox, then the black bricks are free (plus postage). Another option is to buy 3rd party ink. Media Sciences' bricks work well and are available on eBay for cheap. All in all, it works out to be much less expensive per page than inkjet and lower-volume color laser.

The one gotcha: Power consumption. This sucker eats electrons 24/7. Depending on your set-up, a room a/c might be a good add-on. :)

It uses:
  200 watts in Standby mode;
  300 watts at Idle;
  Up to 1000 watts during warm-up cycle;
  600 watts during printing.

Check out http://www.freeprinters.com/ If this deal had been available when we originally went printer shopping, we would have jumped at it...
