John Foster and I wrote an extended review and critique of Piketty that criticizes his reformist proposals to reduce inequality, while praising his work on the extent of inequality, its proximate causes, and likely trajectory: http://monthlyreview.org/2014/11/01/piketty-and-the-crisis-of-neoclassical-economics/. On January 29, my new book on inequality will be published by Routledge. It is titled "The Great Inequality" and consists of a set of essays that detail the nature of inequality, the causes of it, its multiple consequences, and the political movements necessary to end it. There is a chapter on global inequality that is a good companion piece to the Robinson essay Louis references.
As the publication date gets closer, I'll post some moreabout the new book. It will make a nice reader for a college class.
