I think I could track it down. It wasn't strictly NCI related, though.
The split of dynamic loaders init/load code caused an unitialized
property setting ("_type") in the library PMC. Marking this property
hash then lead to an SIGSEGV or not, depending on the moon phase, RAM
contents, and office temperature.
