Suddenly my Mint Xfce desktop was running slow. After a bit of
sleuthing I discovered that console-kit-daemon was taking over a GB of
RAM (the computer has two GB). The GUI task manager refused to kill it,
as did top, but I was finally able to nuke it with sudo kill and the
PID number. I did not reboot and the computer runs normally now without
it.

According to what Google provides me console-kit-daemon is deprecated
and no longer necessary. So why was it even running? And if it is
needed, why does it need a GB of RAM? Should I be filing a bug report?
