The ones I've seen with round, unthreaded holes are intended to use "snap in" 
shelves and computer slides. Sometimes, this is a way to ensure 'lock in' so 
you have to buy the parts from the original vendor. 

The square hole w/cage nuts, or threaded holes are more standard.
