What processor you
use isn't to big of a deal (OSX will run on a 604e,
maybe a 601?) but the more you have the better! And a
G4 really makes a big difference.

If you have a 603e or 604e, OS X can only run up to version 10.1.5. Jaguar added some components that appear to call directly to thermal regulation components which are only present on the G3 and higher, and that causes the install to fail. The XPostFacto people did some work trying to fix this, but weren't successful.

The only machines this really affected were the machines that can't take a G3 upgrade or which can't take one directly in the processor slot, aka the PB3400 and the 5400/5500/6400/6500 series of Performas.

OS X cannot run on a 601 at all. The 601 is architecturally a little different from the newer PPC chips and simply cannot be made to work with X. This only ruled out the 7200.
