Running it under supervise, it gets restarted fine (modulo lockfiles of
course).  There are no "tcpserver exit nn" in the log for any nn except 0.

I have the same softlimit as you, and I'm running no external programs
from qpsmtpd (Amavis does all the checking).  It's on RH7.3 with
Fedoralegacy updates.  Our pperl invocations are identical, except that
I don't set --maxclients, I take the default.

Think I'm going to have to go and dig into pperl a bit, see if and how
errors get propagated back to the original task.
