It is necessary to convert the special characters in order that they will display properly in Windows. For example, in the DOS database a lower case "e" with a grave accent (�) is stored as CHAR(138). When CHAR(138) is displayed in most Windows fonts you see an upper case "S" with a little "v" on top (S). You need to change the character to CHAR(232) in order to see the "�" in Windows. Of course, if you then look at the data in RBDOS you will see something resembling an upper case Greek "phi". This is the reason that the new CASEP, COLLATE etc. tables were required in the RBWin RBASE.CFG.
