Well, we lived in Athens for 14 years before recently moving to NorCal. A couple of years ago The Lonely Planet wrote a review of cycling destinations around the world and chose Athens as best cycling in the USA thanks to the endless matrix of quiet, well-paved backroads. Athens is also home to UGA, so lots of culture, arts, music as you would expect.
Just east, in nearby Greenville SC, Christian Vande Velde and George Hincapie ran training camps thanks to the weather, geography and all those quiet backroads.
