There are a lot of good thoughts here. For essentially every conceivable combination of equipment you will find at least one rider who will say "I used A,B,C for a million miles with two tons and it's good-as-new" and you will find at least one rider who will say "I used A,B,C for 100ft with 10lbs on it and it fell apart". So it's always hard to predict. I will say that a very very experienced wheelbuilder is a great place to invest. I'll also add the +1 for cush in the tires.
