It's certainly a shame to see Howard using Pearson's speech in the way he
has, but it wasn't unexpected. If Hanson was still in the news, she would
also be throwing her support behind it. I haven't read Pearson's full
document, so am not sure if he suggested something to replace the welfare,
but I assume the media has picked up on the "newsworthy" angle of welfare
dependency and forgotten about the rest.

I spoke to Murrandoo Yanner the other day for an article I was writing for
the Koori Mail, and he said he agreed with Pearson but would take the extra
step of saying: fine, take away the welfare, we never wanted it anyway, give
us back all the Crown land and all unoccupied land and we'll look after our own.

This shows the primary difference between the approach of Howard/Hanson, and
people like Pearson and Yanner -- the solutions.

Regards to all.
